Kangaroo Point Bridge

Kangaroo Point Green Bridge

The Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is a 460mtr long pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting Brisbane’s CBD to Kangaroo Point.  As part of the city’s 2032 Olympics infrastructure strategy, this $300 million project enhances community connectivity and supports sustainable urban development.  Constructed using prefabricated components assembled offsite and transported via the Brisbane River, it features a 95mtr tall single mast and 32 cable stays.

This once in a generation infrastructure project was delivered by Brisbane City Council.  The pedestrian and cycle bridge opened to the public in December 2024.

How we did it

From the outset, it was clear that traditional surveying methods would be insufficient.  The bridge’s marine construction logistics, modular design and technical precision required a tailored, multi-method strategy.  Land Solution Australia deployed three senior surveyors across the 3 year project, investing over 8,000 hours.

We developed and implemented survey techniques to:

– Establish and maintain a high precision control network across both sides of the Brisbane River.

– QA all prefabricated structural components at the Port of Brisbane prior to transport.

– Monitor and verify positional accuracy during crane lifts, mast installation and cable stressing.

– Dynamically model concrete deck geometry, adjusting for deflections after each pour (33 model revisions in total).

– Deliver real time results for critical moments such as cable tensioning, ensuring millimetre accuracy under pressure.

Land Solution Australia also overcame unique environmental and logistical challenges, such as reestablishing control networks after flood events and mitigating interference with rooftop prisms.

Outcomes

Survey was critical to the success of this project.  From mast alignment to deck levels, every structural component was installed accurately on the first attempt.  The bridge achieved a 3mm level closure between benchmarks on either side of the river – a remarkable achievement in such a dynamic environment.

Land Solution Australia’s control, QA and real time reporting enabled the client to proceed with confidence through each construction milestone.  The project also received an ‘Excellent’ Infrastructure Sustainability Rating through the Infrastructure Sustainability Council.

This is more than a bridge – it’s a legacy.  Land Solution Australia is proud to have played a key role in delivering a major piece of infrastructure that will serve Brisbane for generations to come.
