Ipswich Mental Hospital
In 2021 Land Solution Australia began working with BESIX Watpac on a three storey, 64 bed Acute Mental Health Unit in Ipswich, as part of West Moreton Health’s expansion. This $91M project also included an enclosed overhead bridge connecting the unit to the hospital.
Other features included in the expansion were: open spaces; rooftop courtyard; internal green spaces; recreational areas and BBQ facilities to encourage social interaction with and visitors alike.
The unit opened to the public in Early 2023.
How we did it
Prior to the construction commencing at the Acute Mental Health Unit, Land Solution Australia undertook a Dilapidation Survey to reflect the ‘pre works’ condition of properties nearby to the site. Once the building works started, we were there for the piling and building platforms to be established; guiding the install of the Tower Crane (dubbed ‘Sir Fix A Lot’) and the foundations of the lift shaft.
With 130 piles being drilled prior to the installation of columns to support the 3200m2 building footprint. Once the three concrete floors were established there was further work installing a variety of services and retaining walls. Land Solution Australia was able to use their expertise and experience to interpret the design construction drawings and consult with the principal contractor to assist them in providing a professional service to ensure that the project progressed efficiently.
The final connecting piece to the structure was an enclosed overhead footbridge to the existing hospital that was installed within two days. This structure was constructed on site with Land Solution Australia involved heavily in this processing providing setting out the bridge and performing a quality control process to ensure that the fully completed bridge would land on the supports located at each end.
Land Solution Australia finished the project off by assisting with markings for landscaping; footpaths; installed services and carparks.
Outcomes
Land Solution Australia were fundamental in providing Queensland Health and the Ipswich region with a 21st century Acute Mental Health Unit for Inpatient Services.
