Engineering and Construction Surveying
After a design has been prepared, often a surveyor is called upon to interpret the plans or digital data and mark for a builder or contractor where to commence or start the work . Surveyors have the ability to measure very precisely where foundations and key structural items fall and this allows builders and contractors to mitigate risk when it comes to building critical items. This is sometimes referred to builders set out.
A more modern way a surveyor can deliver engineering or construction services are through management of spatial data for an on board GNSS machine guidance systems. Surveyors have the ability to set up the framework ( survey control) for the site and then check the 3d design models against construction plans. This ensures the validity of a 3d model prior to and mitigates the risk of operating with an incorrect model or datum when construction is performed.
